Practice Timer

The method behind the timer.

Practice Timer didn't invent a new way to practice — it operationalizes decades of performance and learning research into a timer you can actually follow. Here's what it's built on.

Consolidation happens here — your brain replays the passage faster than real time

A Practice Timer session: focused work blocks separated by timed rests, where the learning actually settles in.
  1. Deliberate practice

Hours alone don't improve playing — focused hours do. Practice Timer structures every minute around deliberate work on the things you can't do yet.

  2. Rest and consolidation

Your brain consolidates new skills during the pause, not the push — and during short rests it replays what you just played, far faster than real time. That's why rest intervals are built in, not bolted on.

  3. Spacing and interleaving

Short, spaced bursts beat marathon sessions, and switching between exercise types builds skill faster than grinding one in a row. That's the shuffle button on your plan.

  4. Goals and self-tracking

Clear goals plus honest self-tracking drive faster gains. Every session ends with a clear summary, and your dashboard shows the trend.

  5. Habit formation

Habits form through consistent repetition — roughly 66 days at a daily cadence. Your plan and reminders are tuned to build the habit, at your pace.

Where LTP-Boost comes from

Long-Term Potentiation is the biological process that strengthens neural connections — the mechanism that turns repetition into skill, and it largely happens during rest. LTP-Boost reads the work-and-rest structure of your session and scores, from 0 to 100, how well it supports that process.
